Setting up Advanced Diagnostics

The minimum information that the ADM provides is a voltage-free contact. It requires no additional engineering preparation. The ADM operates the contact located in the FieldConnex Power Hub.

Advanced Diagnostics provide their full value and integration into DCS and PAM systems through a dedicated diagnostic bus.

The setup is simple and self-configuring reducing engineering work. The Diagnostic Manager identifies all ADMs automatically and configures itself. There are fewer errors during installation and setup of the ADM infrastructure. The FieldConnex Diagnostic Gateway wires two diagnostic busses and converts the information to Ethernet.

The dedicated diagnostic bus communicates data between ADMs and the Diagnostic Manager. The diagnostic bus is a simple infrastructure integrated in the motherboards of FieldConnex Power Hubs. It is an effective way of transmitting measurement values from the cabinet to the control room.

Short connection cables provided with the motherboards daisy chain the ADMs. The FieldConnex Diagnostic Gateway collects all data, converts it to Ethernet for transmission to the control room via existing cables.

Integration into DCS is easy. Summary indication is done via the voltage-free contact or through a simple OPC interface. This enables operators to proactively eliminate unwanted conditions that may escalate to an unscheduled plant shutdown.

Tight integration into the Plant Asset Management (PAM) is available with selected DCS. This allows the view of each segment as part of the plant infrastructure rather than the ADM as a device. Configuration wizards read the setup data of the DCS and the PAM and add segment and device information to the respective infrastructure view of the PAM. The fieldbus segment becomes the manageable asset.
