Pepperl+Fuchs was awarded the status of "Qualified Potential Supplier" by TOTAL S.A., the world's fourth-largest oil and gas company with operations in more than 130 countries. The scope of qualification covers junction boxes, control panels, and components for electrical installations in explosion-hazardous areas. Two of the world-wide located Solution Engineering Centers (SECs) of Pepperl+Fuchs passed the rigorous qualification evaluation process by TOTAL S.A.—from now on, they will support TOTAL’s global business with explosion protection expertise, project engineering knowledge, and high-quality solutions tailored exactly to meet TOTAL’s application requirements.
The range of solutions for electrical installations in explosion hazardous areas is based on a multitude of components and enclosures. Due to the comprehensive Ex-certification, these can be combined into many variants of junction boxes, control units, stations, and panels. Sophisticated control and distribution panels safely protect against explosion hazards and shelter the integrated industrial electrical components from environmental influences. All kinds of switchgear and automation controls can be installed inside the Ex d certified enclosures, which are available in many designs, sizes, and materials including high-quality stainless steel.
The experienced engineers in the Solution Engineering Centers (SECs) identify the appropriate variant and design an efficient solution based on the specifications defined in close cooperation with the plant operator. On site, all cable connections are quickly completed inside an Ex e certified compartment readily equipped with appropriate cable glands and terminals.
The flameproof section normally does not need to be opened on site, which saves commissioning time. With these "flanged Ex de panels", operating and monitoring elements, such as control switches and ammeters, can be integrated into the Ex e portion, too. Later modifications and expansions are possible without the hassle of having to consider the stringent Ex d installation rules stipulated in IEC/EN 60079-14 and further safety standards. Pepperl+Fuchs has recently expanded its range of flanged panel solutions by introducing additional design variants and extended ambient temperature ranges.
Customer-specific terminal boxes and control stations, fully certified Ex e, can be configured from the same broad set of components: from a small single-function control unit up to complex control stations with more than 50 operating elements in one enclosure or terminal boxes containing over a thousand terminals.
